The 50th Anniversary of the Doctorate of Santa Teresa of Jesus will be celebrated on September 27, 2020. In commemoration, the Bishopric of Avila, the Discalced Carmelites, and the Catholic University of Avila (UCAV), along with collaboration from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, have organized the International Congress “Exceptional Woman. Fifty years of the Doctorate of St. Teresa of Jesus.” The opening act of the Congress will take place this coming September 27, the anniversary date of the first woman recognized as Doctor of the Church. The Congress itself will take place April 12 – 15, 2021.
The Congress will include the presence of Cardinal Aquilino Bocos, Rev. Dr. Emilio Martínez, OCD, Rev. Dr. Silvano Giordano, OCD – of the “Teresianum,” Rome –, and Rev. Dr. Rómulo Cuartas Londoño, OCD – of CITeS, Ávila. Other participants in the Congress include: Cardenal Dr. Ricardo Blázquez Pérez, Dr. Beatriz de Ancos Morales, Dr. Marianne Schlosser, Dr. Lothar Wehr, and Dr. Burkard M. Zapff who will cover the life and work of St. Teresa from different perspectives.
On September 27, 2020, the presentation of the Congress will be celebrated with Holy Mass and a talk that will take place in the Cathedral of Avila, transmitted live via internet. The program for this event is as follows (CEST):
