Fr. Jerôme Paluku

Secretary for Missionary Cooperation

Biography

Father Jerome PALUKU is a member of St Joseph General Delegation of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was born on September 29, 1972, at Katamamba in the Catholic parish of Katwe, Diocese of Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He came to know Carmel through the Discalced Carmelite Missionaries (from the Province of Castile in Spain) who were serving the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Katindo, in the Diocese of Goma.

After his first profession on August 15, 1997, Jerome began his philosophy studies at St. Joseph Mukasa Institute in Cameroon and finished them in Kinshasa in 2000. After a pastoral year experience in Goma, he studied theology at Tangaza College in Nairobi-Kenya. He was ordained priest on May 22, 2005 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish of Katindo, the same parish that guided his first steps to Carmel. He served the Order in the capacity of Assistant Parish Priest and Bursar of the community in Goma, and as Bursar of the General Delegation of Congo. As a committed missionary, always available, he availed himself of the possibility to give a hand in the Provincial Delegation of Malawi where he also held various positions of responsibility. It is from there that our Fr General called him in May 2013 to serve in the Centre of the Order as Assistant Secretary for the Missions. He carried out this duty until September 2015, when the General Definitory appointed him Secretary General for Missionary Cooperation.

Outside ecclesiastical studies, Father Jerome holds a Diploma in Social Communication Sciences, from Tangaza College in Nairobi-Kenya and an MA (Masters of Arts Degree) in Development Studies from the Kimmage Development Studies Centre of Dublin (Ireland), where he specialized in Management of projects and development organizations. While carrying on the work of the General Secretary for Missionary Cooperation, Father Jerome is also a consultant in project management.
