Father Johannes Gorantla belongs to the Province of Andhra Pradesh. He received his doctorate in biblical theology from the Gregorian University in Rome. He studied theology in the Teresianum in Rome and completed his licentiate in Sacred Scripture in the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He previously studied philosophy in the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, India.

Father Johannes Gorantla was born on February 27, 1974, in Nawabupeta. He made his first profession in the Discalced Carmel in 1994 and his solemn profession in April 2000 in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in February 2002.

From 2008 to 2011 he was Commissary General of Andhra Pradesh. During the triennium 2011 to 2014, he was the first Provincial of Andhra Pradesh. From July 2010 to July 2014, he was President of the Andhra Pradesh Conference of Religious.

Father Johannes Gorantla speaks three Indian languages: Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi, in addition to English, Italian, Spanish, and German.


He is the Definitor in charge of Formation (initial and permanent) of the St John of the Cross International College and the Missionary Seminary. He also assists in the area of the missions.
