Marié à lâge de 16 ans, il se distingua longtemps comme champion de lindépendance de son pays et sengagea dans la vie militaire. Après la mort de son épouse, il entra comme Frère oblat chez les Carmes de Lisbonne à lâge de 62 ans, sous le nom de Frère Nunio de Ste Marie.Tout en continuant au couvent sa vie de service et daustérité, il fit construire plusieurs églises. Connu pour son esprit de prière et de pénitence, comme pour sa dévotion toute filiale à la T.Ste Vierge, il mourut en communauté en 1431. |

Ancora giovane, entrò a Ferrara tra i Carmelitani della Congregazione Mantovana, dove emise i voti nel 1464. Ebbe numerosi incarichi in vari conventi e fu più volte Vicario Generale della sua Congregazione. Nel 1513 venne eletto Priore Generale di tutto l’Ordine. Morì a Mantova il 20 marzo 1516. Uomo dotato di grandi virtù, si spese per concorrere alla riforma della Chiesa, che amava teneramente. Chiamato il «Virgilio cristiano», venne ritenuto tra i migliori poeti del suo tempo. Gli diede sette figli e seppe raggiungere altezze mistiche pur vivendo in mezzo a travagli e lavori domestici. Ispirata dagli scritti e da apparizioni di santa Teresa, si adoperò intensamente per introdurre le Carmelitane Scalze in Francia. Dopo la morte del marito, chiese di esservi ammessa come semplice «conversa». Emise la professione nel 1615 al Carmelo di Amiens. Molto stimata dagli uomini del suo tempo, venne ammirata anche da san Francesco di Sales. Dotata di profondo spirito di preghiera e di zelo apostolico, morì a Pontoise il 18 aprile 1618. Edificó allí a sus hermanas por su humildad al desempeñar los oficios más bajos de la casa, por su sumisión a todas y por su delicadeza con las enfermas. Nel gennaio 1959 scoprì di essere malata di epatite infettiva, e offrì la sua condizione a Dio con generosità e intenzione apostolica. Morì il 28 aprile 1959, a 34 anni.
