ROME (21-12-2009).- At the General Audience in the Paul VI Auditorium on Wednesday 16th December, Fr. General had an opportunity to greet Pope Benedict XVI and assure His Holiness of the esteem and prayers of our Order.

All the General Definitors and the General Secretary accompanied Fr. Xavier at the Popes General Audience. They were taking part in the third General Definitory of this sexennium from 15 to 21 December.

General Definitory

At the recent meeting of the General Definitory, the various members gave an account of their activities during the past few months. Fr. Emilio, Vicar General, reported on the initial meeting of the Preparatory Commission for the centenary of the birth of St. Teresa (October, Avila) and of the recent launch of the website www.paravosnaci.com.

Fr. General and Fr. Marcos Juchem (Definitor for Latin America), informed the Definitory of their meeting with the Bolivian CICLA group at the end of October. They referred to some of the ideas that surfaced at that meeting in relation to the restructuring of that sector of CICLA.

Other items on the agenda included the meeting of the Conference of European Provincials in Zidine, the first meeting of the General Commission for the Financial Affairs of the Order and the visitation of Fr. George Tambala (Definitor for Africa) to the General Delegation of Congo. As a result of this visit, the General Definitory nominated a special Commission. Its members are Fr. George, President, Fr. A discussion followed about our shared Internet website www.ocarm-ocd.org A reorganization and updating of contents is needed. The joint collaboration involved in the English publication of a Proper of the Order and Saints of Carmel was appreciated.

Fr. Fernando Millan spoke of the OCarm Students reunion in the Holy Land from 22 July to 7 August. He was particularly grateful for the fraternal reception and hospitality extended to their students in our OCD Stella Maris monastery on Mount Carmel.
