Curia OCD ROMA (01-05-2008).- Last April 4 the Association of the Friends of Therese of Lisieux and the prioress of the Carmel presented the work on the new reordering of the convents chapel. It is is four or five months behind schedale, but it is now close to completion. The work has cost five million euros, a large sum of money which was donated by French and American benefactors and devotees. The entire re-modelling is the work of the architect, Francois Pin. As Communicationes made known in a previousl edition the project has tried to respect the atmosphere of silence and recollection in the chapel, and so access has been organized into the reliquary chapel.
Marie-Dominique of the Trinity, the prioress, answers our questions:
- When will the chapel be re-opened?
- After five months delay, we hope this will happen on May 11, the feast of Pentecost.
- What is the objective of the re-ordering?
- To offer a personal welcome to the pilgrims in the building to the right of the chapel. There will be a multi-media presentation of a resume of the work carried out, after which there is a small museum with souvenirs of Therese, and in a passage way there will be the votive offerings dedicated recently to the Saint. Then one enters a well-lit hall that will offer the visitor room for reflection and, if one wants, to meet with a priest. Thus one arrives in the chapel in order to pray and to participate in celebrations and to the reliquary chapel which is outside We are also remodelling the garden in front of the chapel.
- Is the number of pilgrims to Lisieux increasing?
- Yes, every year. We notice the increase in Carmel. Before about 20% of the pilgrims to Lisieux came to our Carmel. Now there will be many more
