Blessed Mary Candida of the Eucharist

She was born in Cantazaro (Italy), August 16 1884, to Peter Barba and Joanne Florena. Later the family moved to Palermo, where she received her first holy communion on April 3, 1894. In 1919 she entered the Ragusa convent of the Discalced Carmelites nuns, where she made profession April 23, 1924. She was elected prioress and novice mistress many times. She edified the community with her holiness and in particular with her devotion to the eucharist, which became the subject of much of her writing. She died June 12 1949, and beatified March 21 2004.
